2010.09.16, Vilnius
Today "Agmis", Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Business support Agency (LVPA) have inked EU cofunding agreement for the market research and R&D project. The project is aimed at feasibility study of e-publishing and e-books to minimize risk of further R&D investments by "Agmis". The EU contribution to this project is 45.628 Lithuanian Litas (13.225 euros) that come under the "Ideja LT" funding programme.
E-books and e-readers now are experiencing big boom worldwide. Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony are prime examples of devices that have gained worldwide prominence in the last couple of years. This year has attested successfull debute of tablet PCs such as Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Tablet PCs represent another significant set of devices that could be used as e-readers. Lithuanian market though has not yet experienced a boom in e-book publishing, the supply largely has been sporadic so far. Current market has no prevalent e-book formats nor established e-publishing infrastructure, so "Agmis" sees wide range of oppurtunities for both services and software in this area.
During the 6 month-long project "Agmis" will conduct market and technology research, evaluate different market approaches and technology platforms and parameters for publishing books in Lithuanian and other Eastern European languages.
